 Welcome! Minimize

Welcome to the Youth Ministry page!  Youth Ministry is an outreach of the parish to the high school youth in the parish and in the community.  If you're in high school, then this is for you.  The purpose is:

  • To help you know that God loves you
  • To show you that you are an important part of this parish and this community
  • To deepen your faith and your understanding of it
  • To offer events that interest you
  • To reach you where you are, wherever that might be

If you are in high school and are interested in getting involved with our youth group, you're more than welcome!

 New Youth Ministry Blog! Minimize

We have just launched a new blog devoted to reaching out to the youth and young adults in the parish and beyond who might be interested in our events but can't make it, or who might be interested in growing in their faith but aren't interested in our events.  The blog features various posts including Non-Ordained Homily Notes, a weekly post that features brief explanations of the Sunday readings with practical application.  Check it out at www.fire.stblogs.com!

Fall Speaker Series:  Exciting monthly speakers on great topics!  Event open to ALL ages!

Tuesday, August 24th - 7pm in the church - Dr. Regis Martin (Professor of Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville) will speak on "The Religious Sense: Seeking God in the Current Cultural Situation" - What is the Meaning of Everything?  The desire for God is written on the human heart and therefore the search for God is what most fundamentally defines the human being.  This is the "Religious Sense," which helps make sense of the culture.

Monday, September 13th - 7pm in the church - Dr. Stephen Miletic (Professor of Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville) will speak on "The Bible and Culture: Biblical Spirituality" - Spirituality is a personal encounter with god.  How can you have a subjective experience of an objective reality?  What is Biblical Spirituality?  This lecture examines the Interior, Religious, and Spiritual Life and how this life interacts with the culture.

Monday, October 4th - 7pm in the church - Mike Aquilina (Executive Vice President of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology) will speak on "The Family on Mission: Lessons from the Early Church"  - Early Christians lived in a thoroughly pagan culture that did not respect their values and looked down on their practices.  Sound familiar?  You might be surprised to see that the transformation of a culture begins in the home.

Tuesday, November 9th - 7pm in the church - Dr. Eugene Gan (Professor of Communication Arts at Franciscan University of Steubenville) will speak on "iCatholic: A Practical Guide to Modern Media" - How should we engage media in a meda-saturated culture?  What does Scripture say about media usage?  What is a Christian approach to video games, social networking websites, and R-rated movies?

 Interested In Helping? Minimize

We are always looking for adults (21 and older) who are interested in helping with the Youth Group.  Your involvement could be as simple as chaperoning or driving and as involved as helping cook meals on the Fall Retreat.  If you're interested in helping in any way, please contact Jason using the contact info listed on the top left of this page.

All adults in the parish or neighborhood are welcome to come to our adult meetings on the first Tuesday of every month from 7-8pm in the Ministry Center (old convent building).  Each month we discuss that month's events and any other major events in the future.  We also discuss issues our youth are facing, recruiting methods, and possible events for the future.  It's a great way to get plugged into our Youth Ministry program and meet other adults interested in helping our youth grow in holiness.
